EMDR & LGBTQ+

Resolve the past. Reclaim the present

Finding a therapist is hard; finding one who truly 'gets' the nuances of LGBTQ+ life shouldn't be

  • I navigate the world as a member of the LGBTQ+ community

  • Qualified EMDR therapist (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

  • UKCP accredited Psychotherapist

  • Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA)

  • Approved for private insurance with AXA, AVIVA and WPA

In our sessions, you won’t have to spend time 'educating' me on queer terminology or the realities of minority stress.

Why EMDR works

Clearing the path forward

Trauma isn't always one big event; for many of us, it’s the 'micro-traumas' of growing up in a world that wasn't built for us. EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy tool that helps reprocess those 'stuck' memories, moving them from a place of active distress to a place of quiet history.

Moving beyond the past

Think of EMDR as the bridge between what your brain knows and how your body feels. Often, we intellectually know we are safe, but our body still reacts as if we are in danger. EMDR is a structured therapy that acts as a catalyst for the brain’s natural healing process, allowing it to "re-file" traumatic memories so they no longer cause distress.

By using Bilateral Stimulation, such as guided eye movements or rhythmic taps, we mimic the processing state of REM sleep. This approach is highly effective because:

  • Faster Results: It targets how memories are stored in the nervous system, often working more quickly than traditional talk therapy.

  • Less Pressure: You do not need to describe every painful detail of your past out loud to find relief.

  • Holistic Healing: It simultaneously addresses physical sensations, intrusive thoughts, and negative self-beliefs.

  • Versatile Support: It is used to treat PTSD, anxiety, childhood trauma, shame, and healing hyper-vigilance.

The ultimate goal is to reach a place where you can remember the past without being pulled back into it, finally clearing the emotional "block" that keeps you feeling stuck.

Whether we are processing specific identity-based trauma, or working on something entirely unrelated like childhood experiences or anxiety, my practice is rooted in affirming your identity so you can focus on the details and the impact of your story.
